Location:

Hybrid: HKS Library & Zoom

HKS Data + Donuts is a learning and discussion group that offers a welcoming space to engage critically with issues of data and society. Every few weeks during the academic year, we invite researchers and practitioners to facilitate conversations around their area of expertise – and share donuts!

Whitney Airgood-Obrycki (Senior Research Associate) and Sophia Wedeen (Research Analyst) work on research related to affordable rental housing at the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University.

The rental market broke several records over the last two years, including unprecedented rent growth, plunging vacancy rates, surging demand, and booming multifamily construction. Amid these conditions, the pandemic exacerbated and exposed many of the challenges renters faced in the preceding decade. At this session of Data + Donuts, Whitney and Sophia will discuss the challenges of tracking rental market trends during the pandemic, discussing the patchwork data sources available, data disruptions during the pandemic, and the data gaps that remain.

This event will be held in a hybrid format. Speakers will present via Zoom. Please register to receive a link to join via Zoom. In-person attendees can join us in the Library Commons.
